A man is shot and quickly buried in the high desert of west Texas. The body isI love how this movie opens. The opening 30 minutes are great. And the more I think about it, I love the meandering ending... but the pacing after the half-way mark sucks.

foreman, kidnaps a Border Patrolman and forces him to disinter the body. With
his captive in tow and the body tied to a mule, Pete undertakes a dangerous and
quixotic journey into Mexico.
It's nice to see Tommy Lee Jones play something other than a U.S. Marshall, but this film needed some heavy editing... and perhaps an assistant director to guide the neophyte Jones through this two-hour ordeal.
